Bike theft in Kathmandu: a practical anti-theft playbook
By Trackon Team5 Jul 20265 min read
A stolen bike is rarely bad luck — it's usually an easy target. The goal of an anti-theft plan is simple: make your bike slower to steal and faster to recover than the one parked next to it.
Layer 1: make it hard to take
- Use a disc lock in addition to the steering lock.
- Park in lit, busy spots — thieves avoid an audience.
- Never leave the key in the ignition, even "just for a minute."
Layer 2: make it easy to recover
This is where a GPS tracker earns its keep. A hidden Trackon device gives you:
- Live location you can share directly with police.
- Movement alerts the instant the bike moves while you're away.
- Geofencing so you're notified if it leaves your neighbourhood.
If your bike is stolen
- Open the app and note the current location and time.
- File the report with the exact coordinates — not just "near Koteshwor."
- Keep the live link open so officers can follow the bike in real time.
Recovery odds rise sharply when police get an accurate, moving location instead of a static last-seen guess.
